WE ARE …

A community of partners – staff, volunteers, donors, and supporting agencies – collaborating on behalf of children of poverty. Project Reflect was chartered in 1992 by Sister Sandra Smithson, a Roman Catholic Franciscan nun. Our two divisions are: Education Reform and Children’s Programs. Through 2002, we sponsored a summer school, after-school program, pre-school program, and teen scholars program – all for children at high risk of failing school (“at-risk” students). In 2003, we opened Middle Tennessee’s first charter (public) school for at-risk students in kindergarten through grade four.

FROM THE FOUNDER

Ninety percent (90%) of children of poverty are failing in our nations public schools. Our organization’s mission, to create a brighter future for at-risk kids, is 15 years off the ground and running. Over the past years, we have met the special challenges that children of poverty bring to the classroom. Our program, specifically designed to inform, reform, and transform their vulnerable little lives, has proven highly successful.

This year, we launch our second phase of growth and development. We are looking for partners. Please join our effort with your prayers, your service, your talents, and your treasure, knowing that you will reap the promise of the Lord, “Whatever you do for these, the least of my little ones, you do for Me….Enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matthew:25)

Let the promise of a better life that our nation is making to people around the world be made available to our own children of poverty here at home.

S. Sandra O. Smithson, OSF
